Overwatch received a pretty big update today. The new hero, Sigma, is now available and you can also pick what role you would like to play before matches.

Blizzard have been pretty pro-active with Overwatch updates lately. It was only a few months ago they introduced the new support hero, Baptiste, into the mix and gave players full creative control with the new match editor. The new match editor gave players the tool to create their very own game modes such as Overwatch Battle Royale.

Log on now to harness the power of gravity and use it against your enemies as Sigma in Quick Play, or queue up in the Competitive Play Role Queue Beta Season to select your preferred role before the match begins.

How Role Queue Works

With Role Queue, we’re updating the matchmaking and queuing systems in both Competitive Play and Quick Play so that players choose which role they want to play—tank, support, or damage—before a match even begins. The matchmaking system will then match two tanks, two supports, and two damage heroes to create a team, and upon entering match, players will select heroes within their chosen roles. At the end of a match players will return to the main menu and select their role before queuing for the next game. To allow time for additional testing and feedback, we’ll be running the two-week Competitive Play Role Queue Beta Season from now until 2 September AEST/NZST. Players can earn Competitive Points similar to other competitive mini seasons and qualify for Top 500 Leaderboards during the beta season. However, beta season stats will only be available for a limited time and will not count toward a player’s permanent Competitive Season stats. Role Queue will be fully available for Quick Play beginning on 2 September AEST/NZST, alongside Sigma’s debut in Competitive Season 18.

Who is Sigma?

Sigma is an eccentric astrophysicist who gained the power to control gravity in an orbital experiment gone wrong. Manipulated by Talon and deployed as a living weapon, Sigma’s presence on the battlefield cannot be ignored.
