Starfield will not be coming to PlayStation 4, Microsoft confirms

Microsoft announced that their highly anticipated space role-playing game Starfield is coming in 2021 exclusively to Xbox gaming consoles and PC… not PlayStation.

Many are concerned that Fallout, The Elder Scrolls, Doom, and now Starfield will become Xbox/PC exclusives now that they have acquired the triple-A developer; Bethesda. They may just be right.

NEWS: Sony thinking about buying Valve Corporation/Steam.

Not a whole lot is known about the upcoming space role-playing game from Bethesda except that is supposed to be “worth the wait,” and “realistic.”

Starfield is the first original role-playing IP from the developer in many years, and they’ve reportedly been working on this game for many, many years.

Starfield leaked gameplay screenshot

At first Bethesda promised that the game would release on all platforms, even the Nintendo Switch, but the future of the new game is no in doubt after Microsoft acquired Bethesda Softworks.

Why would Microsoft spend billions of dollars on massive IPs only to make them available on their competitors hardware, many are asking.

The Xbox Game Pass Ultimate already gives Xbox Gamers the ability play their favourite games on both Xbox and PC; with cross-platform saving, I might add. Although the Xbox Series X, spec wise, is inferior to the PlayStation 5, the PlayStation Network has nothing on Microsoft’s service, and that could be the winning factor.

Xbox Series X - TES Hammerfell

After a lot of speculation about upcoming Bethesda games Micrsoft and Bethesda have finally confirmed that, at least in the foreseeable future, Starfield will only be available on Xbox and PC and not on PlayStation.

Xbox CVP Sarah Bond stated that, “One of the things that has me most excited is seeing the roadmap with Bethesda’s future games, coming to Xbox console and PC including Starfield.”

Microsoft quoted her with a tease of Starfield which is set to release next year (2021), but the statement also seems to suggest this is true for all of Bethesda’s future games. So, no The Elder Scrolls VI: Hammerfell, Fallout 5, Doom, or Starfield for the PlayStation.
