Jim Carrey made a joke about Margot Robbie’s looks that some consider ‘creepy and rude’ on The Graham Norton Show and now he’s facing backlash.
Ace Ventura actor, Jim Carrey, made a sarcastic remark when appearing on the popular British talk show, The Graham Norton Show, and now the Twitterverse is exploding with pretty harsh comments about the comedian.
Did you know?
- Director Matt Reeves tweeted first picture from The Batman.
- Marvel reportedly only hiring women for Captain Marvel 2.
What exactly did Jim Carrey, 58, say to Margot Robbie to warrant such harsh criticisms and be called a ‘creepy old pervet’? He joked about the 29-year-old Aussie actress having a physical disadvantage.
“It’s incredible that you’ve got as far as you have with your obvious physical disadvantages,” Carrey jokingly said to Margot Robbie.
The joke itself was very vague, and, although not referencing her beauty or looks per se, people simply assumed that he was being a pervert.

People offended at a joke they don’t understand
Many times through his career, Jimmy was told the exact same thing, “it’s amazing you got as far as you did with such limited acting skills.” His successful career in film has often to credited to his abilities as a physical comedian.
Margot Robbie’s biggest role is as the Joker’s ex-girl in the DC cinematic universe, Harley Quinn, and she earned her own standalone movie called The Birds of Prey which lands in cinemas this month all across Australia. Jim Carrey also played a similar villain on the DC cinematic universe of old when he donned the green suit as Edward ‘The Riddler’ Enigma in Batman Forever.
One guy was quick to point out Carrey’s stance on Hollywood double standards in a tweet: “Jim Carrey was genuinely commending Margot Robbie – the comment about her making it despite obvious physical disadvantages was a secondary afterthought. If he was scorning anyone, it was Hollywood, of whom Jim is famously critical – not Margot, whom he was clearly complimenting.”
Jim Carrey’s return to form
Jim Carrey is back on the Hollywood A-list after taking a long hiatus from acting. He’s true return to form started with Showtime’s Kidding — season 2 available on Stan on the 9th of February — where he plays a beloved children’s TV show host trying to come to terms with the loss of his son and failed love life.
Jim Carrey will also appear on the big screen as the iconic videogame villain Dr. Robotnik aka Eggman in the film adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog, and fans are absolutely raving about his performance in the trailer.
